Inexhaustible
Right now when I think of the word inexhaustible I think of my almost 3 year old son’s ENERGY.
But back the matter at hand… Jesus says of Himself in John 10:9 – “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved…”
Often this is where we leave Jesus. He is the door that opens us up to this salvation life called being a Christian. But He who refers to Himself as the gate also calls Himself the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Often times in our gatherings together as believers (whatever form that takes) it appears more likely that we are communicating Jesus as the entrance “but now let’s move on to deeper things, more exciting topics, perhaps some positive living ideas, or behavior modification preaching”.
And yet He is the way.
Knowing Jesus is inexhaustible. He says that, “If you have seen me you have seen the Father…” There is no end to knowing God thus there is no end to knowing Jesus who is the expressed image of God in bodily form.
In another context I think of of one of Paul’s last letters written where he says after all his achievements, his studies and education, he still boils down his pursuit in life to be, “That I may know Him,… that I may gain Christ.” (Phil.3:8,10).
The more you get to know someone, the more they influence you and leave a mark on your life. You subtly (or not so subtly) start acting like them, taking on their ideals and motivations, and their mannerisms.
Knowing Him is inexhaustible. And I like that.
